A very good morning to Mrs. Junaidi, the principal of SMK DPHA Gapor, teachers and fellow students. Our school has decided to launch a ' Health Week ' to raise awareness among students about the need to be more health conscious. As we know, obesity has been on the rise among young people.
There are many reasons why young people are obese. Firstly, having improper eating habits causes young people to be obese. They eat too much junk food such as potato chips, fries, carbonated drinks, chocolates and ice-cream. All these food items contain extra calories which are not needed by the body. Therefore, they are stored as fat, causing obesity.
In addition, there is a lack of exercise among young people. They dread exercising but they prefer to hang out at shopping malls or cybercafes. Many are couch potatoes, watching television for long hours or sitting in front of computers to surf the Internet or playing online games. Without proper or regular exercise, they do not burn off the extra fat in the body and thus, they become obese.
In most homes, there are maids to do household chores. Young people tend to be lazy, even ordering their maids to do this and that. As a result, they are less active and lose extra weight slower or not at all. In other words, their lazy lifestyle also makes them become obese.
However, there are many ways to reduce weight. Here are some suggestions. Exercise is the key to lose weight. You must exercise at least three times a week in order to burn off the extra calories or fats. The easiest exercise is brisk walking, which is simple and cheap.
You will also have to reduce your food intake. Moreover, lower the intake of food that is high in sugars such as sweets, carbonated drinks and chocolates. It is also important to reduce fat intake and thus, eat less cheese, butter, deep-fried food and so on.
Last but not least, change your eating habits. You should eat a lot of vegetables and fruits instead of junk food or food that is high in calories and fats. Eat three meals a day at a fixed time. Alternatively, you can eat small meals at regular intervals. In this way, you will not starve yourselves and overeat when you are too hungry.
Before i conclude my talks, I hope that all of you have gained an insight into the problem of obesity and learnt ways to control your weight. After all, 'Prevention is better than cure'.
Thank you.
